DEXA Bone Density Testing

Bone density testing is used to diagnose Osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a silent disease that weakens bone leaving you at risk for fragile or broken bones.

Many people think that calcium supplements and exercise are enough to avoid Osteoporosis. That is not always the case. Discuss your risk factors with your physician to see if you should be screened.

Risk Factors for Women:

  • Post-menopausal women
  • Early onset of menopause
  • Family history of Osteoporosis
  • Low body weight
  • Smoking
  • Low estrogen levels
  • Caffeine intake
  • Alcoholism
  • Family history of fractures
  • Poor diet / low in calcium

Risk Factors for Men:

  • Prolonged use of steroids
  • Smoking
  • Low calcium intake
  • Inadequate physical exercise
  • Heredity
  • Low testosterone levels

WCA now offers bone density testing with a DEXA scan unit. The DEXA unit offers quick easy testing with less radiation. We will even coordinate your DEXA scan with your Mammogram appointment, if you wish.
