- May 1st: International Workers’ Day: {May Day}: Celebrates the social and economic achievements of workers worldwide. The day commemorates the Haymarket Rio of 1886 in Chicago, in which police and protestors clashed following a workers’ strike for an eight hour work day.
- May 1st: Beltane: Pagans celebrate the unison of the god and goddess which is believed to be the basis of all creation. This festival is celebrated with maypole dances.
- May 5th: Cinco de Mayo: The “fifth of May” commemorates the battle that was won on this day in 1862 during the years that the Mexicans were struggling to drive foreign armies from the country and became an independent nation. In the USA, this day is celebrated in a zesty spirit with parades, food, musical events and dances.
- May 9th: "Ascension Day": Celebrated 40 days after Easter to commemorate the final earthly appearance of Jesus after his resurrection. The Christians believe that Jesus ascended into heaven.
- May 23rd: Declaration of the Bab {“Baha’i}: Commemoration of May 23, 1844 when the Bab. the prophet - herald of the Baha’i Faith announced in Shiraz, Persia, that he was the herald of a new messenger of God.
