School of Medical Technology
Meet the Primary Faculty

The School of Medical Technology boasts of quality individuals who supervise the internship program and faculty who bring years of experience and vast knowledge into lectures and one-on-one clinical training. Additional instructors in the lecture and bench instruction of the program are bench Medical Technologists who bring with them a wide base of experiential knowledge along with a desire to share their knowledge and love of laboratory science. All of the laboratory’s technical staff are certified by a national certification board and are licensed by the New York State Department of Education Office of the Professions as Clinical Laboratory Professionals.

The Primary Faculty

William A. Geary, MD, PhD
Medical Director, Pathologist

As Medical Director of the School of Medical Technology and as Laboratory Director, Dr. Geary is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, and in Cytopathology. He received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology (1983) from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri and his M.D. from the University of Virginia School of Medicine (1987). Dr. Geary performed his residency at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center in Charlottesville, VA, and has extensive publications. Dr. Geary joined the WCA Hospital health care team in 2003 and owns his own private medical practice, Jamestown Area Pathology.

Michele G. Harms, MS, MLS(ASCP)CM

Michele received both her Masters Degree in Biology, emphasis in Physiology (1995), and Baccalaureate Degrees in Medical Technology and Biology (1989) from the State University of New York College at Fredonia. She completed her internship at Rochester General Hospital School of Medical Technology (1990) and worked as a bench technologist until accepting the program's directorship in 2002. Michele was also an adjunct faculty member at Jamestown Community College, teaching labs in Anatomy & Physiology, for 17 years.

Janet McMillin-Jaszcz, BS, MLS(ASCP)CM
Clinical Coordinator

A graduate of Millikin University, Decatur, IL, with a Baccalaureate Degree in Biology/Medical Technology (1974), Janet performed her clinical training at St. Mary's Hospital. Janet has worked in the clinical laboratory setting for her whole career. With experience as an evening-shift supervisor and Clinical Chemistry Supervisor, Janet also has extensive experience in Blood Bank and has served as Clinical Coordinator within the School since 1990.

Kathy Anderson, BS, MT(ASCP)SH

Section Supervisor, Hematology

A graduate of Hudson Valley Community College with an MLT degree (1972) and graduate of Empire State College with a degree in Medical Technology (1982), Kathy has served in the clinical laboratory for many years. Kathy gained her Specialty in Hematology certification in 1991 and is the Section Supervisor of Hematology at WCA Hospital.

Judy Apperson, BS, MT(ASCP)
Primary Faculty
Section Supervisor, Microbiology

Since 1975, Judy has been Section Supervisor of the Micro- biology laboratory. She completed her training in laboratory science at the E. J. Meyer School of Medical Technology (1973), receiving her bachelor of science degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo (1973) and her associate degree (1971) from Niagara County Community College.

Bonnie King, BS, MT(ASCP)SBB

Section Supervisor, Blood Bank

Bonnie received her baccalaureate degree from State University of New York at Geneseo (1974) and continued her education at DeGraff Memorial Hospital, becoming certified as a technologist in 1977. Bonnie gained her Specialty in Blood Bank certification in 1990 and is the Section Supervisor of Blood Bank.

Ronald Pittock, BS, MT(ASCP)

Section Supervisor, Clinical Chemistry

A graduate of Edinboro State University (1975), Ron received his clinical training at St. Vincent Health Center, Erie, PA. Ron is currently the Section Supervisor of Clinical Chemistry, with past experience as an evening-shift supervisor and Clinical Coordinator in the School of Medical Technology.
