Jamestown, New York (Friday, January 4, 2008)—The WCA Hospital Rehabilitation Team will present a free seminar on “Understanding Back Pain”, on Wednesday, January 23rd, at the WCA Hospital Auditorium, located at 207 Foote Avenue, Jamestown. The seminar, including a presentation and question and answer session, will be held from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and is part of the WCA Rehab Team’s "Here's to Your Health" educational seminar series for the general public. Light refreshments will be served.
Reservations are not necessary and there is no cost. Those attending will have an opportunity to talk with Daniel Johnson, Physical Therapist and Director of Rehabilitation Services at WCA Hospital, about the field of physical therapy.
Low back pain is the second most common reason for physician visits, accounting for 2.5 percent of all medical visits in 2002. Economic costs associated with low back pain exceed $100 billion per year in the United States alone. “Although no one has found the magic formula for treating back pain, physical therapists often incorporate lifestyle modifications in their approach to helping patients with low back pain,” said Dan Johnson. “Our program will center around those modifications which include reducing stress, maintaining an ideal body weight, exercising regularly, watching body mechanics associated with lifting, pulling, pushing, and reaching, as well as practicing proper posture.”
Mr. Johnson, a licensed physical therapist, received his degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Buffalo in Buffalo, New York. As Director of Rehabilitation Services at WCA for over 15 years, Johnson provides administrative direction for the overall operation of the hospital’s rehabilitative programs, which have been recognized nationally for excellent patient outcomes.
