LOCAL PHYSICIAN EARNS CERTIFICATE
IN SLEEP MEDICINE
Jamestown, New York (Monday, June 9, 2008)— Frank Arnal, M.D., FCCP, on the medical staff at WCA Hospital since 1994, recently earned his Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sleep Medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine. Board certified in Internal Medicine with sub-specialties in sleep, pulmonary, and critical care medicine, Dr. Arnal is the Medical Director of the WCA Hospital Sleep Center, located at the main campus of the hospital at 207 Foote Avenue, Jamestown.

The ABIM certification indicates a substantial professional commitment to sleep medicine and documents expertise in sleep medicine to patients, professional colleagues, and organizations. Successful completion of the examination is testimony that the individual has devoted time to specialized training and has obtained broad knowledge in diverse disciplines and substantial expertise in diagnostic and treatment skills specific to the field. In short, a board-certified sleep specialist has been evaluated by his or her peers and found to meet high standards of knowledge and clinical competence.
A native of New York City, Dr. Arnal received his medical degree from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, New York. He completed a residency in internal medicine from Tufts University, Baystate Medical Center, in Springfield, Massachusetts, and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine from Brown University, in Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, Rhode Island. Arnal is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.

The WCA Hospital Sleep Center features advanced digital technology and rooms for six patient studies and recently expanded services to now accommodate six patients undergoing sleep studies simultaneously. The expanded Center also has a designated room for pediatric sleep studies for young patients, five years of age and older. The Center offers all-night polysomnographic monitoring and daytime testing. During a sleep study, patients spend the night and are monitored by sleep technologists using a variety of equipment including infrared closed-circuit television cameras which record in the dark, to monitor body functions through different sleep stages in order to recognize various sleep disorders. The Center is a referral facility designed to diagnose and recommend treatment for the most complex sleep disorders.
