FREE PROSTATE CANCER SCREENING SET FOR SEPTEMBER 16TH
Jamestown, New York (Monday, September 8, 2008)—Western New York Urology Associates, LLC will host a Free Prostate Cancer Screening Clinic for men from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, September 16th. The offices of Dr. Peter Walter, Dr. Ichabod Jung and Dr. Ryan White, located at 103 Allen Street, near WCA Hospital, will host the screenings.
No appointments are necessary and walk-ins are welcome. The September event is in the recognition of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and is made possible by the local physicians, WCA Hospital, and the American Cancer Society.
“We are fortunate to have advanced screening tools available to us,” Dr. Walter said. “They allow us to diagnose prostate cancer in the early stages, when it is most often curable.”
The prostate cancer screening includes a questionnaire, PSA blood test and a digital rectal exam by a urologist. The clinic is open to all men who have not been previously diagnosed with prostate cancer. Men ages 50 and over are encouraged to attend as part of the American Cancer Society’s recommended yearly screening. Annual screening should begin at age 40 for men at higher risk, such as African-American men and men with a family history of prostate cancer.
The American Cancer Society reports prostate cancer is the leading source of new cancer cases in men. Prostrate cancer is the third leading cause of cancer deaths in men. For more information, call the WCA Hospital public relations office at 664-8614 or the physicians’ offices at 488-1851.
