Jamestown, New York (Thursday, May 15, 2008)—In recognition of Better Speech and Hearing Month in May, WCA Hospital will offer free hearing, speech and swallow screenings and express hearing aid checks from Wednesday, May 21st through Friday, May 23rd from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The trained professionals at WCA Hospital will offer the free screenings to the public for those who are 2 years of age and older.

Since 1927, May has been designated Better Speech and Hearing Month, a time to raise public awareness of speech and language disorders that affect millions of Americans.

"An annual speech and hearing evaluation should be a part of everyone's health program," said Robert Piede, MA, CCC-A, WCA Hospital Director of Speech and Hearing.  “Our screenings are an effective way to help detect communication loss and prevent serious impairment from occurring.”

The Speech and Hearing Department at WCA is staffed by Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists licensed by the State of New York and Certified by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association. The Department is an approved New York State Department of Health Diagnostic and Treatment Center for patients with communication disorders.
