Jamestown, New York (Friday, February 19, 2016)— WCA Hospital will host a Teddy Bear Clinic during the MEET OUR ROBOT event on Monday, February 29, 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the WCA Auditorium. The community health and wellness event gives residents of all ages the opportunity to test-drive the hospital’s surgical robot and meet the robotic surgeons. Children who attend the event will receive a free coloring book entitled, A Trip to Outpatient Surgery.

The Teddy Bear Clinic will introduce children to the emergency room experience in a fun and educational setting. “Come meet us before you need us,” says Jessica Cappa, R.N., WCA emergency room nurse and Teddy Bear Clinic coordinator. “Visiting the hospital emergency room can be a stressful time not only for the children, but the parents as well. The clinic gives children and parents an opportunity to interact with the emergency department staff and touch the equipment that may be used during a real visit without the apprehension that can occur during a real emergency visit.”

Following the discharge of their stuffed animal from triage, children will make their way through to the Red Robot Carpet where they can dress up just like a surgeon and have their picture taken on the robot red carpet. Attendees receive a free digital photograph keepsake.

The MEET OUR ROBOT event will begin at 4:30 p.m. Fun interactive activities include, test drive the ROBOT on the da Vinci Robotic Surgical system. Sit in the robot’s chair and peer into the device. Using hand and finger gestures, participants complete demonstrations on the video screen, much like a video game. Guests can watch replicated robotic surgeries performed using da Vinci ® Surgical System. Meet the credentialed robotic surgeons on the medical staff of WCA and the surgery team, including the anesthesiology team. View all of the emerging and exciting surgical instruments used in real robotic surgeries. Listen to a live presentation by Timothy Brown, M.D., FACS, credentialed robotic surgeon, entitled “Robots In Surgery”. Other activities include, chair yoga by Carrie Harvey, Certified Yoga Instructor, free blood pressure checks, donate blood at the Community Blood Bank bloodmobile drive. Guests may enter a raffle ($5) to win a PGA Tour package experience and a chance to walk with the pros, compliments of the LECOM Health Challenge. Participants will be treated to free refreshments, robot snacks, gift giveaways, take home education pamphlets, and much more.

Free and open to the public, event parking is available across the street from the hospital’s entrance on Foote Avenue. For more information, go to or call (716) 664-8614.
