Women's Heart Event Promotes
Laughter as Good Medicine

Captain Cardio (Ron Privatera, orderly at WCA Hospital) adds humor and fun as Toni DeAngelo, RN, Wellness Program Director takes a blood pressure reading for Dianna Buttafarro, patient representative on staff at WCA Hospital. In celebration of National Heart Month, Ms. DeAngelo is visiting employees throughout the hospital to raise awareness of the importance of good heart health and invite them to an Evening of Heart Health at Humor at the JSB Ice Arena on March 1st. Captain Cardio will be on hand that evening to great guests and promote the message that humor is good for health.

The Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena (JSBIA) is hosting the third annual women's health event, An Evening of Heart, Health and Humor on Thursday, March 1st. The Unexpected Guests, the area's renowned improvisational comedy group, will present two hilarious, interactive programs that showcase laughter as good medicine. The program is in partnership with WCA Hospital's Heart Center and Wellness Program and the Lucille Ball - Desi Arnaz Center. Major sponsors are Cummins Jamestown Engine Plant Women's Affinity Group, Jamestown Area Medical Associates, Lane Women's Health Group, SYSCO Food Services of Jamestown, and Tanglewood Manor.

"Anyone who enjoys comedy like Whose Line is it Anyway? will love this show!" says Erica Maloney, JSBIA Marketing Director. There will be dozens of vendors and interactive displays, all focused on pampering and fun for women. This event is in recognition of Heart Month and ties into Wear Red Day, which is a national initiative to raise awareness of the importance of heart health in women. Physicians and staff from the WCA Heart Center and other health-related programs will be on hand to provide screenings, health assessments and fun activities that promote good health. "Heart disease is a serious yet preventable health concern for women," said Toni DeAngelo, WCA Hospital Wellness Program Director. "This year we're encouraging women to take laughter seriously, and laugh their way to good health. Laughter is like internal jogging. Studies show that it is a wonderful way to relieve stress and release chemicals that can relax the blood vessels and actually lower blood pressure."

The spectacular evening also includes a shopping extravaganza, spring fashions from "All About Me", food, wine and beverages. "In addition to the comedy show, we expect more than 40 vendors on site who cater to women," adds Ms. Maloney. "Some will offer free samples of their products, some have activities planned and many will be have products for sale."

"Attendance for the last two years has been phenomenal," adds Ms. Maloney. "This year should be even more fun for the ladies! We've made some positive changes. We are having two performances to accommodate a large crowd. We've moved the food and vendors inside the main building because of the cold temperature in the rink area. And, there is more time between the performances for the ladies to interact with the vendors and enjoy the displays."

Doors will be open from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. There is an early bird show at 4:30 p.m. and a repeat performance at 6:45 p.m. Vendor displays are from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available for a $5 donation at the door, and through the Reg Lenna Box Office at 116 E. Third St, by phone at 484-7070, or on-line at www.reglenna.com
