Patient Responsibilities

As a patient you should assume responsibility for the following:

  • Tell your doctor and the staff how you feel.

  • Answer questions from your physician, counselor or hospital staff to the best of your ability.

  • Cooperate with your doctor and staff as they plan and provide care to improve your health and make your stay pleasant.

  • Accept the problems you may have if you do not take your medications or follow instructions.

  • Ask your physician if you need to change any medication before a procedure or test, i.e. insulin.

  • Listen to instructions, read written materials and ask questions if you do not understand any of the information.

  • Bring a parent or guardian with you, if you are under the age of 18.

  • Bring your physician's order and consent form, insurance card and any papers you may receive prior to appointments or testing.

  • When possible, notify your insurance company about your stay prior to your arrival for any tests or procedures. If you need help, please ask a staff member.

  • Assure that the bill(s) for your healthcare services are taken care of promptly.
