TPA for Stroke

A Stroke is caused by a blood clot in the brain and is the leading cause of disability in our country. A new therapy is now available that can help dissolve the clot, preventing disability from stroke. It is called Tissue Plasminogen Activator (TPA), sometimes referred to as a "clot buster".

It is critical for any person experiencing symptoms of a stroke to seek medical help right away by phoning 911 or coming to the Emergency Department (ED). Patients must be seen in the ED within three hours of the onset of their symptoms.

After an evaluation by the physician, patients who meet all the criteria are eligible to receive TPA.

For more information about stroke or TPA call the WCA Wellness Program at (716) 664-8619.
