Schools and Training Programs

New classes start the third week in August of each year.

UPMC Chautauqua Medical Laboratory Science Program

The UPMC Chautauqua Medical Laboratory Science Program in western New York is a 45-week preceptorship. The National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences accredits the program.

It offers intensive study and clinical experience in medical lab science as the last year of a bachelor's degree (3+1) and for qualified post-graduates. The goal is to develop a responsible and competent lab professional.

The program year starts with the didactic rotation of in-depth lectures and student lab sessions on topics such as:

  • Immunology/serology
  • Transfusion medicine
  • Hematology/coagulation
  • Urinalysis
  • Chemistry
  • Microbiology

Students then complete over 720 hours of at-the-bench clinical experience, with direct patient specimens.

The year ends with a lab research project and poster presentation. And students will be ready to pass the exam for national certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.

UPMC Chautauqua School of Radiology

William Burger, RT (R) founded the UPMC Chautauqua School of Radiology in 1967 to produce well-qualified radiologic technologists to serve our community.

The school offers a full-time, 22-month, hospital-based program. We divide the two, one-year phases into trimesters.

The first year includes didactic classroom work and clinical learning in the science of radiologic technology and creating an proper x-ray.

The second year focuses on clinical competency and preparing for the American Registry of Radiologic Technology exam.

Chautauqua Regional Paramedic Program

UPMC Chautauqua and Jamestown Community College have partnered on a program to train paramedic professionals. Students can earn an associate's degree at Jamestown Community College and paramedic certification from UPMC by completing 30 credits of training from each facility.
