The Image of Quality
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is part of a relatively new breed of imaging techniques or scanners that enables medical professionals to see deep within the human body in a noninvasive way, that is, without entering the body or breaking the skin.
The system consists of a series of powerful electromagnets in the shape of a large tube, which surrounds the patient, enveloping him or her in a powerful magnetic field.
The system enables medical professionals to see inside the body by making use of the body's natural chemistry. Since the body contains abundant amounts of hydrogen, an element that has prominent magnetic qualities, the scanner is able to excite the protons of the hydrogen atoms in such a way that they transmit faint radio signals. The signals are then read by a computer and converted into a very detailed image.
The advantage of MRI over past imaging techniques is that by using magnetism instead of X-rays, MRI avoids exposing patients to ionizing radiation.
WCA Provides MRI Services at The Center For Imaging & Medical Arts At WCA Hospital, directly behind the Main Campus of WCA on Foote Avenue. Use Allen Street Parking Lot Entrance.
The MRI Center, located at the Center For Imaging & Medical Arts (directly behind WCA Hospital) houses a fixed MRI Scanner designed by General Electric offering image quality and fast scan times utilizing high-field 1.5 Tesla technology. The technology was created to enhance patient comfort with a maximum feeling of openness and ultra-fast imaging capabilities. The flared aperture (opening) enables patients to see outside the MRI system during the exam. Shorter scan times can help reduce patient anxiety, especially with children.
WCA recognizes that our patients are the most important part of our new service, so we make every effort to provide a premium service in a comfortable, patient-centered environment. From entrance way to the scanning room, earth-tone colors and fabrics reflect a scheme that is inviting, warm and charming. By providing unique touches such as natural lighting and decorative ceiling effects in the scan room, the MRI Center makes the patient's scan time as homelike as possible without comprising image quality.
The extended evening and Saturday hours of operation help meet the patient's busy personal schedules.
