The WCA Hospital School of Medical Technology is an accredited, 45-week, internship program offering intensive study and experience in clinical laboratory science as the final year of a Bachelor's degree. The classroom-based and hands-on clinical education is designed to develop a responsible and competent laboratory professional who will be prepared to pass an examination required for national certification as a Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist.

Mission Statement

The mission of the WCA Hospital School of Medical Technology is to provide a challenging program for assisting students in acquiring the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and values to gain the level of excellence required for the profession of Medical Technology and Clinical Laboratory Science.

Program Goals

In order to achieve its mission, the WCA Hospital School of Medical Technology will:

Provide students with a dynamic, progressive and challenging atmosphere to develop the knowledge, skills, and values to meet and exceed established entry-level competencies.
 
Promote teamwork in the laboratory related to an organized work day, consistency in work performance, work-related communication and cooperative, supportive relationships with coworkers and other members of the health care team.

Promote procedural proficiency and competency to include accuracy and productivity along with problem solving and the correlation of results with clinical disease evaluation.

Instill knowledge of hospital process including patient needs related to the professional activities, behaviors and attitudes of the health care team; thereby advocating a commitment to quality patient care, compassion and concern for the dignity and rights of all patients.

Prepare our graduates for successful completion of a national certification examination through gaining a dynamic working knowledge of the vast body of laboratory and diagnostic procedure.

Maintain accreditation under the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.

Provide the WCA Hospital laboratory and its employees with an educational framework to encourage furthering the body of knowledge in our profession through research and scholarship.
