SOUTH HILLS MEMBERS MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
BENEFITS WCA CANCER CARE

Jamestown, New York (Wednesday, June 11, 2008)—Golfers teed-it-up at the first annual Members Memorial Tournament, which washeld Sunday, May 18th at South Hills Country Club to benefit the WCA Hospital Cancer Care Program. The event, organized by club members, raised $2,525.00. Proceeds from the golf tournament included donations made in memory of a member’s friend or family member.
The funds raised from the charity are earmarked for a new, state-of-the-art Clinac iX Linear Accelerator at WCA Hospital for patients diagnosed with cancer who undergo radiation therapy treatment. The new technology is a component of a recent collaborative agreement between WCA Hospital and Roswell Park Cancer Institute to provide enhanced radiation therapy services to cancer patients of Southwestern New York.

Thanks to their charitable support, we are able to enhance the medical care for those diagnosed with cancer by investing in new technology that improves the health and well-being of those we are so privileged to serve.”
One hundred and four golfers played in the Members Memorial Golf Tournament. The members of the Planning Committee included: Vince Messina, Dave Stearns, Gary Yager, Izzy Barlow, and Sam Galbato. Golf tournament winners: 1st Flight: Casey Windoft and John Brinkley (60); Petter Turnquist and Judd Bohall (62); Joe Demarco and Phil Demarco (64); Paul Miller and John Nelson (65). 2nd Flight: John Trout and Mike Paterniti (61); Kevin Brown and Bob Dowd (61); Joe Ingrao and John Matteo (62); Sandy Volpe and Steve Anderson (63). 3rd Flight: Izzy Barlow and Ted Pasquale (58); Mike Caprino and Bill Everson (63); Carl Pillittieri and Bob Johnson (64); Jon Gronquist and Don Colf (64). Women’s Flight: Michelle Ognibene and Sally Buffone (64); Marty Carcione and Marge Nandlestandt (64).
“It was a great event for a great cause,” said Vince Messina, Event Planning Committee Member. “We would like to extend special thanks to Tom Trusso, owner of South Hills Country Club, for his generosity in hosting this event.”
The WCA Cancer Care Program of WCA Hospital is dedicated to offering compassionate, state-of-the-art cancer care. The cancer care program is the only comprehensive program in Chautauqua County to hold a prestigious three-year approval with commendation for its Cancer Care Program from the Commission on Cancer (COC) of the American College of Surgeons. The three-year approval with commendation is the result of the hospital’s commitment to integrating clinical excellence, programs and community outreach. WCA is one of only 1,350 programs across the country that has earned approval from the Commission on Cancer. In New York State, only one in four share this prestigious honor.
